It has been confirmed that PlayStation 3 owners are going to have to wait until next year before they get a pop at a
Killzone 2 beta.
A representative for Sony Computer Entertainment America said, "We are hoping to do a beta but I don't think we'll have anything ready before this year is over... it is something we are working on for next year."
†While Sony used the less-than-definite phrase "hoping to" in its statement, developer Guerilla Games' lead tester, Seb Downie has been more assertive on the subject of a beta in the past. In
Killzone 2's official forum he wrote, "Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended". That led many to hope that the beta would arrive sometime this year.
Meanwhile, a poster called DFCMaNTiS told the official
Killzone 2 forum
posts, "I JUST FOUND OUT FROM MY COUZIN WHO WORKS FOR KZ THAT ITHE NEW KZ WILL BE RELEASED ON 3/4/08".
The poster gave no indication of what region he was referring to, although SPOnG's guessing the date at least is in the American format - March 4th rather than April 3rd.
We called developer Guerrilla today to get the actual news - and were told "No date has been announced yet".
We'll keep you updated.
