Nintendo has upped the ante for those wishing to make use of
Super Smash Bros. Brawl's online functionality. A new mode will allow gamers to watch each other in action as they do online battle.
We'll let Masahiro Sakurai, the game's designer and director, introduce the mode:
"So, for this game, I’ve prepared a new kind of mode. It’s called Spectator, and you’ll find it in the With Anyone menu. If I had to describe it in a word, it’s 'watching!' This mode is a service where Nintendo uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to send the data for games played between other people to every Smash household."
In short, if you can't quite be bothered to step up yourself or fancy gleaning a few pointers, you'll be able to treat
Smash Bros. as your own personal goldfish bowl of violence!
If you fancy spicing things up a tad, Sakurai-san tells us, "And at the beginning of each match, you can even bet coins on the character you think will win."
SPOnG's pleased to see Nintendo pushing the boundaries of online functionality in its games. It has, let's face it, not been much of a focus for the company to date, with only a small roster of games utilising it. We're mighty pleased to see fans of online gaming haven't been forgotten and that Nintendo's prepared to take a leap few publishers have in
providing online play for a beat-'em-up.
