GAME, the UK's largest specialist gaming retailer, has credited Nintendo with an increase in the number of female customers walking through its doors.
Speaking to industry magazine
MCV, GAME CEO, Lisa Morgan, said:
“The products that are out there at the moment are really increasing our reach. We saw 15 per cent more females dropping into our stores for the first half of this year and 30 per cent more than we had in 2005. Unquestionably the Nintendo DS and the likes of
Nintendogs and
Brain Training are bringing more girls and more older customers in-store.
“More recently we’ve had Nintendo Wii which is attracting all sorts of demographics, young and old.”
Microsoft might like to claim some of the glory, having made a push towards female gamers with the likes of
Viva Pinata and Xbox Live titles and having publicly stated that it
has its eye on that wider market. With the death of the Core console (which is priced alongside the Wii) looking likely, however, it seems Microsoft might be giving up the ghost on that demographic.
