SPOnG is getting more excited about the forthcoming battle of the (videogame) bands, following the recent news about the Sex Pistols and The Stone Roses in Activision/RedOctane's
Guitar Hero III and the news today that R.E.M.'s classic
Orange Crush is set to appear in MTV/Harmonix/Electronic Arts'
Rock Band.
On the downside, Christian metal band Flyleaf's
I'm So Sick is also set to appear in
Rock Band as an unlockable bonus song. This loses the game ten respect points immediately in the SPOnG office.
Anarchy Club singer/guitarist Keith Smith (and Harmonix employee!) revealed in a MySpace update that a track from his new E.P. will appear in
Rock Band and that previous
Guitar Hero unlockable favourite bands like Bang Camaro, Freezepop, Acrobrats, and Vagiant will also appear in Rock Band.
Still, Activision is currently on top having secured the Pistols and the Roses - and for some reason having got the City of New York to declare yesterday, "Guitar Hero Day". We wonder how that went down with Iranian president and all-round un-rocking the casbah type, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has been visiting the Large Granny Smith of late.
Come on EA! Time to sign The Jam and The Happy Mondays at least?
