Cranium is one of SPOnG’s favourite board games and inevitably gets cracked open every Christmas, following the traditional killing of a big bird and imbibing of many lurid-coloured strong drinks throughout the day.

Cranium is a central part of the tradition that is the celebration of Baby Jesus’ birthday, so it’s great news to hear that Ubisoft is to bring a version of the game to the Nintendo Wii in December.

Ubisoft is certainly putting its money where its mouth is and dedicating a significant amount of resources to developing genuinely appealing ‘casual’ games, based on well-known tried-and-tested gaming properties such as Cranium.

In Cranium Kabookii players use the Wii Remote to compete in a variety of minigames, puzzles, and various interactive challenges. Players also get to use an intriguing sounding Kabookii decoder glass, which lets them view hidden messages or answers on the screen - sounds a bit like the old "Lenslok" copy protection system from the days of the C-64 and ZX Spectrum.

Ubisoft also tells us that Cranium Kabookii will be made in localised editions for Canada, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. More details on pricing for this must-get Christmas pressie for 2007 when we get it.
