Eidos has dished the dirt on the fifth instalment in the
Conflict series. Previously
announced under the working title
Crossfire, the latest entry into the series will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC under the new moniker of
Denied Ops.
Eidos tells us of the game:
“Conflict: Denied Ops is set in today’s volatile political climate, focusing on two covert field operatives, experts in weapons and military tactics. The game allows players to switch seamlessly, at any point, between these two operatives to lay down covering fire, explore diverging paths through the levels, create distractions and pin the enemy under fire.”
Developed by Pivotal Games,
Denied Ops will use the developer's new Puncture Technology. As you'd expect from absolutely any next-gen game, a highly destructible landscape is on offer. More interesting is the ability to shoot holes in walls to snipe through, or just plain blow them up to take the enemy by surprise.
The “
Denied” bit of the game's title refers to the operatives' complete non-existence on the intelligence map. Think of that bit in
Men in Black when Will Smith gets his fingerprints burned off, but a tad less cool. The Special Activities Division CIA, now the National Clandestine Service, is where the
Denied Ops draws its inspiration from.
Eidos tells us that
Denied Ops takes place in “politically sensitive” areas in South America, Africa and Russia. After the news SPOnG
brought you this morning about Special Force 2, however,
Denied Ops will probably seem like a political cake walk.
“This is our first chance to develop a Conflict game for next-gen platforms,” said Pivotal's technical director, Alex McLean. “Working on the 360 and PS3 we’ve been able to take the series to new heights, with true next-gen lighting, advanced enemy AI, an explosive environment and unique tactical co-op gameplay.
Conflict: Denied Ops marks a new era for the
Conflict series.”
