Exclusive New Kane and Lynch Screens

A flawed mercenary and a medicated psychopath - what a pair!

One of the games SPOnG is particularly keen to see more on out at Leipzig next week is IO/ Eidos’ gruesome and dark psycho-thriller, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men.

Check out these four exclusive screens from the game, which Eidos describes as a “dark and gritty tale of two men bound by circumstance, a volatile partnership and brutal attitude, as they wait on death row for their final sentence.”

Kane and Lynch: Dead Men is a story-driven, fully co-operative third-person action shooter title, with “intuitive crew mechanics” and “heavily populated destructible real-world scenarios.”

We found out a little more about the two dodgy-looking characters from the game in our recent interview with Eidos’ Ian Livingstone at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival earlier this week, who told us: “[Developer] IO… demonstrate more than anybody else the importance of character. They really work hard at establishing their characters to resonate with the audience. Though obviously they go for ‘bad men’…you’re not supposed to like them but you do!”

We asked Livingstone, what with the current climate and the recent Manhunt 2 ban, if it would be fair to say that there is this slight culture of fear about creating these types of games?

“Well, no. I don’t think that’s fair to say really. A mature audience should be able to make mature choices about what they do for entertainment. And judging the whole of the games industry on the back of one banned title is rather like judging the whole of the film industry on the back of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There’s a wide variety of games out there applicable to all ages, young and old, male and female. If people do want to watch mature films or play mature games then they should be entitled to.”

Watch out for more on Kane and Lynch: Dead Men from Leipzig next week.

A games developer talking ignorantly about films - not only is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre regarded as a classic but in fact it contains almost no blood.
