Blizzard has announced a brand spanking new
World of Warcraft expansion, titled
Wrath of the Lich King.
Blizzard took the opportunity of BlizzCon to make the announcement to some 8,000 MMO fans. The new expansion will open up the wasteland of Northrend, bringing the 'Death Knight' hero class, the 'inscription' profession and new levels of power.
“This expansion will add some of the most infamous characters and settings from the
Warcraft universe to
World of Warcraft”, said Blizzard's president and cofounder, Mike Morhaime. “In addition to new story content,
Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a number of features specifically requested by players over the past couple of years. We’re looking forward to sharing further details with everyone as development progresses.”
We last got the chance to take a trip to Northrend in
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, when Arthas Menethil merged with the spirit of Ner’zhul to become the Lich King. It was around the same time that SPOnG was fusing with the spirit of John Smith to become drunk.
The producer of the upcoming
World of Warcraft movie also took advantage of BlizzCon to spill a few more beans on the film. You can find out which beans were spilled
here.Dig in to the trailer and screens below to get a better idea of what we're in for. When you're done with those, SPOnG has an
FAQ from the nice chaps over at Blizzard dishing out more tidbits. Then, if you're still thirsting for more, you can find it on SPOnG's
dedicated Wrath of the Lich King game page.
