Islamic Phrase Removed From Wii Game
Phrase suitable for prayer, but not pirate games
The Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has announced that Capcom has removed what CAIR calls a "common Islamic phrase" from Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure on the Wii. The phrase's removal comes following complaints from CAIR and others.
The phrase in question is "Allahu akbar" ("God is most Great"), an Arab phrase frequently used in prayer. The phrase came to CAIR and several complainants' attention after it appeared in a promotional video for the game.
A Capcom representative told CAIR, "We have already contacted the team working on the game, and the phrase has been removed from the game and will not be heard in future videos released to the public."
"We appreciated Capcom's willingness to address Muslim concerns about the use of a religious phrase in an inappropriate context and applaud the company's swift response," said CAIR Communications Coordinator Amina Rubin.
Zack & Wiki isn't the only game to have come under fire in the name of political correctness of late. Ubisoft's Mind Quiz was pulled from sale in early July for containing the phrase "super spastic", with Mario Party 8 following it a couple of weeks later for the same phrase (minus the "super").

If they left the phrase in, maybe the republicans would have accused it of being a 'jihadist' game. :)
