Bethesda's Daddy Sets Up MMO Studio
ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, is taking a step into the world of online gaming. The company has announced the creation of ZeniMax Online Studios, which will focus on the MMO market.

The studio will be headed up by Matt Firor, one of the founding members Mythic Entertainment with 10 years experience in online gaming under his belt. Firor is most recently known for producing Dark Age of Camelot and has spent the last year working as a consultant for the online game industry.

“This could not be a more perfect opportunity for me”, said Firor. “I am extremely impressed with ZeniMax and Bethesda Softworks management – their development philosophy closely matches my own, with an emphasis on quality, innovation, and craftsmanship. I am eager to get back to what I love – the development of cutting edge MMOG titles.”

The COO of ZeniMax Media, James Leder, also seems pretty happy about the arrangement. “We are excited about the opportunities we have in the online gaming space and felt that Matt is the perfect person to lead this effort,” he said. “There are relatively few people who have the actual experience and knowledge that comes from having created a successful MMO, and Matt is the real deal. We feel fortunate to have him join our group.”

ZeniMax is remaining tight-lipped about exactly what titles the new studio will be working on. “We’re way too early in the process to be talking about any concrete plans we have, except to point out the obvious that we develop MMOs”, was all that Firor would say on the subject over on Bethesda's blog.

That said: online studio? Check. Sister company famed for its work on RPGs? Check. Elder Scrolls MMO, anyone? OK, that's pure speculation, but feel free to add to it in the Forum.
