Konami backing Xbox with ISS and Silent Hill occupying monster booth space

Konami to stir it up in Tokyo

Konami of Japan is making its commitment to Xbox plain for all to see, showing four games at the Tokyo Game Show and dedicating half its floorspace to the console.

Two of the titles will definitely raise a few eyebrows, especially at the Sony stand. ISS X will debut at the stand, capping off a busy time for Konami’s soccer development team. We have heard that the Xbox version of ISS is going to be unbelievable, a quantum leap forward in videogame football realism.

Silent Hill will become a real battleground title for Sony and Microsoft. The PlayStation 2 builds are looking absolutely fantastic and have drawn a lot of attention in Japan. Sony has also chosen to launch its new sound tampering 3D audio protection middleware with the game, hoping that it will make the PlayStation 2 version a must-have for games.

At this time Konami is keeping tight-lipped about Silent Hill X. “As far as we are concerned, Silent Hill is in production for Xbox but it is not confirmed for the Tokyo Game Show. Konami of Europe has not heard that the game will be present at the event in any form.”

It is likely that Microsoft is planning on upstaging Sony at its home event. The sources that have gone on record to say that Silent Hill X will be playing at the TGS are too plentiful and reliable to doubt.

The bottom line is that the Xbox version will look a lot better. Able to throw around polygons and textures the PlayStation 2 can only dream of, Microsoft’s new baby looks a dead-cert to upstage Sony. This could also be a pivotal point in Microsoft’s attempt to win over Japanese gamers. Being presented with a tangible reason to buy an Xbox is exactly what the Japanese need. We can’t imagine what Sony has to say about this. No-one at the company was willing to comment anyway!
