Harmonix has just released the first official trailer for
Rock Band, along with a batch of new screens to go with it. You can get your eyeballs damp with the condensed sweat drips from the ceiling above you as you watch it, right here on SPOnG.
Below you'll see a bunch of young pretenders rocking out to
Suffragette City by Jet rip-offs, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Alas, the legendary sideburns of Mick "Woody" Woodmansey are nowhere to be seen. In fact, the lead singer looks closer to Iggy Pop than he does Dame David Bowie, but SPOnG supposes today's yoof might not have understood Bowie in all his spandex-clad, sequined glory.
Comparing the game itself to Activision's
Guitar Hero, local musicologist - Andy SPOnG - told us, "This game (
Rock Band) is like The Lurkers'
Love Stor that they followed with
Shadow. It were basically the same song, but in a different sleeve."
The fact that
Guitar Hero developer, Harmonix, is also the developer for
Rock Band would certainly match Andy's Lurkers analysis... Although, we're not sure who The Lurkers actually were.
Anyway, enough of SPOnG's warm-up, tuck into the main event below, then cast your eyes over the accompanying screens and peripheral pics. When you're done, you can find out
what SPOnG thought of Rock Band when we managed to land our hands on it last week, then check out SPOnG's
dedicated game page.
