Wii Fitness Board Price Exposed?

US retailers may have given the game away

US retailers may have given away the pricing of the bundled-together Wii Fitness and the Balance Board.

Various American retailers' sites, including those of EB Games and GameStop, are listing the game and peripheral as costing a relatively modest $69.99 (£34), despite Nintendo having made no announcement on pricing.

The figure listed means one of two things: either the retailers know something we don't and they've let the cat out of the bag, or they've had to put a placeholder price on their sites so they can begin taking pre-orders.

SPOnG got in touch with Nintendo seeking confirmation, but was met with the unsurprisingly vague comment of, "We have no details of that at this time".

Should the price prove accurate, of course, it's unlikely that we Brits will pay the sterling equivalent of the dollar price. For a first party Wii title Americans will generally pay $50 (£24.50), while we're left paying £39.99. That leads SPOnG to believe that if Americans pay $70 for Wii Fitness and the Balance Board we will pay around £50 for it.

If that all sounds a bit pricey, however, you could just try and track down an Amiga Joyboard and get your balance thrills in a more retro fashion.

If it's a placeholder price, then I assume it's either accurate or an overestimate.

£50 is quite a lot these days, but I can see it costing that much. On the other hand, though, it's not the controller that makes it worth the money to the people buying it, it's what you can do with it. I would say that, being experimental, it would be more realistic to make it cheaper - not even because of value, but because the controller is only useable for the one game (i.e. the fact that it comes with a peripheral is irrelevant, hence the cost can't be increased too much over a typical game).

Even comparing the board to the remote, to be honest, the board doesn't feel like it should cost more than a remote.

At the end of the day, Wii Play is £35. realistically, I would hope that Wii Fitness isn't much more. If I consider £50 to be on the borderline of expensive, I just wonder what non-hardcore Wii owner would pay £50 for one game (whether it has a peripheral or not).
