We recently brought you news that Konami of Japan is running a competition on its web site which allows players to register high scores achieved whilst playing the demo version of Metal Gear Solid 2 The Sons of Liberty.
This was all going well until the demo, released with the mech game Zone of Enders, came out in the States and Europe. It was then the cheating began.
On the front page of the official MGS 2 site, the place to enter high scores, Konami has posted the following announcement.
“We have found dishonest registering of Clear Codes for our MGS2 TRIAL EDITION Internet ranking and have deleted these registered data from our ranking. It is unfortunate that this has happened, and Director Hideo Kojima and his staff are disappointed and sad that we had to make this announcement. We ask you not to obtain and register dishonest Clear Codes.”
Why you little… The stupid thing about registering these codes is that you have to give all your details to Konami. If you are found to be registering false codes, none of your legitimate entries will be accepted. It’s not big and it’s not clever.
