Exclusive: Message from Codemasters: Forget Gran Turismo 3, We are planning something BIG!

Huge driving game planned by Codies

Today Codemasters has announced that it has acquired the rights to the positively mental Australian Avesco’s V8 Supercar Championship. Nothing unusual about that we are sure you will agree.

“We are continually working to enhance Codemasters' portfolio of top world class motorsport properties,” said Andrew Wood, Codemasters Motorsports licensing manager. “It's terrific to have won the AVESCO rights to the V8 Supercars and Shell Championship Series. As one of the world's classic series, it is of incredible value as we go forward and expand our motorsport franchises.”

What Andrew is not telling you is that Codemasters has no intentions of making a game entitled Avesco’s V8 Supercar Championship. Instead they are planning something on a much, much bigger scale.

It would be fair to say that Codemasters is one of the few companies to make full use of officially licensed games properties. TOCA, Colin McRae Rally and Micro Machines all pay testament to this. Unlike other companies, EA spring to mind, who seem to be content with producing what Sega called “lukewarm licensed titles.”

Our source at Codemasters has told us that the V8 Supercar Championship will be amalgamated into one big “mother of all driving games” type thing along with TOCA and Colin McRae.

“Imagine all of the Codemasters AAA driving titles lumped together into one track based driving game. We are aggressively buying exclusive rights to as many valuable racing properties as possible. You will not believe what we have planned,” our secret source told us. “The development focus at Codemasters is very much on PlayStation 2 and Xbox.”

As further news on this project emerges, we’ll keep you informed, but remember where you heard it first.
