Back when our mates were playing Dungeons & Dragons boardgames and we (the universal SPOnG) were laughing at their elvish antics, we had a secret: Call of Cthulhu. So, it was with some dark whimsy that we spied the following fan-trailer for Anderson & the Legacy of Cthulhu, the PC RPG.
"Australian trailer about Cthulhu? With Kylie and some other Neighbours babes? That's got to be good! Crikey!", exploded our resident Aussie.
When he was corrected with the words, 'Austrian', 'black and white', 'subtitled' and 'in-game footage' he slunk off back to his statistics and ACDC videos.
So, what follows is a darkly amusing experience from, we are told, "a collaboration between literature experts, Pen&Paper gamemasters and campaign writers, award-winning director Gerhard Daurer and fantasy artist Peter Siedl..."
We are yet to discover the award won by Herr Daurer, but if the trailer's anything to go by we imagine it is for some corker of a World War II film noir piece featuring comedy storm troopers.
But you can't fault a game which is, "100% fan-made", so we're giving it the oxygen of publicity in order that more people get together and make games!
"Anderson & the Legacy of Cthulhu is a playable Horror Novel containing shooter and adventure elements.
"It takes the Protagonist Robert D. Anderson, last descendant of a counts dynasty, from New York to Germany around 1940, where he finds himself in the middle of the starting World War. Following his obscure and dire family history, he discovers a huge underground system of cages and caverns beneath his ancestors’ castle. There the legendary "Order of the black sun" jeopardises live as it exists with dark blasphemous rituals…"
Blasphemous rituals you say...
