Half Life 2: Episode 2 Release Date

U.S. gets (another) due date

Half Life 2: Episode 2 Release Date
Half Life 2: Episode 2 will ship on October 9th in the US, according to a Valve representative.

That date, apparently, applies to all platforms, so we won't see a gap between the game's PC and console releases as had been hinted by Valve's marketing director, Doug Lombardi.

The game has had a fair number of slips. Valve most recently said the game would "Right in September", but we won't kick up a fuss about it shipping a week and a bit later since the developer was good enough to qualify its statement with an "ish".

There's no word on when the game will hit us Europeans yet. SPOnG asked EA, which distributes the game in the UK, whether a date has been scheduled yet and was simply told, "No."

Why has it taken them so long to release this? Valve are killing their own concept of episodic gaming. Ep2 isn't going to look great, it's not going to have a lot of new technology behind it, so I suspect that the delay has been trying to get every version out at the same time and create some big hype about a general release.

It comes with Portal and Team Fortress 2. I'm not complaining.

If it comes with Portal and Team Fortress 2, that's damn good value. Yeah, it takes long but plenty of other games to hunt for til then.

Where's the HL2 Ep1 and 2 pack for 360, though?

Joji.... there is no extra packs for the 360... ep2 on the xbox comes packaged with ep 1, the original, portal, and TFC2... just so ya know :)

I believe that this is just another marketing strategy from Valve - During all this time we are waiting for HL2 Ep2, they are probably already working on HL3 ;-) Good stuff takes time to develop, and I wouldn´t be surprised if HL3 would be on the shelves by the end of 2009 (At least we could hope for this to be true) ;-)
