Plus: Control system tightened

Gears of War Update Available Tomorrow
Epic is releasing eight new achievements for Gears of War tomorrow. The achievements, worth a total of 250 points, will be released for the Annex game type and the Hidden Fronts multiplayer map pack, which was released in May.

That's not all Epic's up to, however. The developer is also improving the controls for making a Roadie Run, so that players can better control their movement while the camera bobs about behind them in the quest for cover.

The update will also deal with a number of known multiplayer exploits, cleaning things up to make dirty online players blow each other up fairly.

The release of the new Achievements makes use of Microsoft's policy that additional points can be made available through downloadable content.

Although the Achievements are freebies, however, the opportunity to drum up a bit of cash isn't entirely passed up since Hidden Fronts costs 800 Microsoft Points. Unless, that is, you can wait until September 3rd when they'll be made available free of charge.

Oh, just release the maps for free, not free til september 3rd. Now wonder some people get so good at it.

You don't have the new maps, in some cases you can't play at all online, due to a prince and pauper hierarchy of have and have nots.

I agree with Valve, give the maps away and don't sell them. Whether I can get a game of GoW online I'll have to see, it damn annoying trying sometimes that I just give up.

Yeh I gave up trying to play ranked a long time ago. Just go for the player matches and you soon find a group you like playing with all the time. Makes the game far more fun.

Yeah, even there I get kicked out a lot, and I reckon its because I don't have those maps. This is one aspect that puts me off Live. If you want more people online who have already lashed out £40 on a game, give them those extra maps for free, same as the PC does all the time.

I can understand this kind of micro transaction lark on MMOs (where there are countless items available to buy and progress with), but not on something like GoW. Leave those Live points for arcade games and content that really needs it.

A) It's published by MS, not epic, so they decide if something is free or not.

b) I absolutely love playing this game online.... with my real friends. I don't envy people who don't have enough real life amigos with 360's to get a decent game together but its an absolute joy.

c) Suck it up about the money. This game is huge and shiny and exciting and nothing but absolute top quality throughout. What you got on that disc was worth 60 bucks. Sure free s**t would be nice, but asking people to pay for something that they spent money making, well, is just normal. Free extras are the exception not the rule. You should be glad when you get them not angry when you don't. I don't always expect to "get one free" whenever I buy anything. It's a silly way to think.

d) just in case you've not got it and are looking for non annoying strangers to play with I'm "lupos". If anyone on here is looking for a good game on occasion. I usually scrape together 4-6 other people a few nights a week so we could use a few more to fill in the slots. If you do invite me, send a message saying who the heck you are k?

FYI being a mercan I'm probably only online when you euros are in bed ;)
