Rumour and speculation have flourished in recent weeks over a
possible slimmer redesign of the PSP as well as a
Sony Ericsson patent relating to a proposed PSP phone. While SPOnG awaits a response from Sony Ericsson in Japan regarding the above-mentioned PSP phone patent, it's interesting to see that Sony's senior marketing manager for PSP in the U.S., John Koller, has gone on record on the
newly unveiled official PlayStation blog to clearly state that no announcements have been made relating to either:
"The rumor mill is flowing about new PSP hardware and a PSP phone, and I just wanted to take the time to clear the air. We haven't announced anything about a new PSP, much less one that would have any phone capabilities. As SCEA's resident PSP guru, I'm thrilled to hear that there's so much interest in the platform, but sorry folks, these reports floating around fall into the rumors/speculation category."
At last! Someone actually commenting on rumours and speculation! Except, what he actually says is that "No announcement has been made".
This, dear readers, is what a man named Richard Millhouse Nixon would often call "plausible deniability". This enables organisations and individuals to say, on the launch day for a product that they had appeared to dismiss, "We said we'd not made an announcement, that was all".
And no, we don't mean Bart Simpson's best mate.
Whatever. Expect a full update on the future of PSP from E3 next month.
