Gears of War's Mark Rein Gets Story Pulled

Gears of War on PS3 rumour “Bull****”

Posted by Staff
Epic's vice president, Mark Rein, has dealt gaming scuttlebutt a firm slap on the posterior regarding Gears of War heading to the PlayStation 3.

In a posting in Epic's official forum Rein wrote:

“This story is complete bull****. I emailed the site (N4G) and asked them to take it down. We're very happy with our relationship with Microsoft. If it weren't for them Gears wouldn't be the huge hit it has become.”

Lo and behold, N4G now features the headline, “Epic Threatens to Move Gears to PS3?” followed simply by the word “deleted”.

Before it was pulled the story indicated that, because of disputes over Xbox Live content for the game, Epic was threatening to take Gears of War to the PS3.

Bear in mind that N4G itself is a news aggregator rather than a news site.

It seems like another hour, another rumour quashed, this morning. Earlier SPOnG informed you that another rumour relating to platform-exclusivity, this time regarding Metal Gear Solid 4, is speculation at best.

SPOnG would like to take a moment to commend Rein on his firm rebuttal of Internet... well, lies. He earns himself a point on the SPOnG Industry BS Index for actually commenting on rumours and speculation.

Gears of War isn't much more than a Resident Evil 4 rip off. Epic should be lucky m$ ponied up some live gamer cash to build and keep it exclusive to the inferior xbox 1.5 (360?). And m$ should be lucky a developer taught them a lesson in hardware design, to double their system memory. Ouch!

This all a bit of silly platform specific posturing. Due to their similarity, platform exclusives are the only way for the current gen to differentiate themselves from each other (Wii excluded). In the old days, due to the nature of programming for 16 and 32 bit, you could easily do multi ports (look at how much money EA have made from that!) But now, with the costs running into millions, it is obvious that these need to be recouped somehow - and that maybe through a fat eclusivity payment or through investing in cross platform development. I am just pissed that i can't play every game i want due to 'exclusivity' and platform specificness (if such a word exists). This is all probably cooked up by fanboys out there wanting each others best games. Zelda on PS3 next maybe?
