Mr. Isao Okawa, Sega's Managing Director, Chairman of the Board, and President, as well as CSK's chairman emeritus has died at the age of 74.
After suffering a heart attack in the early hours of 16th March, Okawa died in Tokyo Medical College Hospital.
Mr. Okawa is the man credited with taking Sega to where it is today, and was instrumental in resurrecting Sega’s Market presence and company value. Only two months ago, Okawa donated a staggering half a billion pounds to the company from his private estate as well as relinquishing his 12.5% stake in Sega.
Analysts have reported that Okawa’s death should not have an effect on Sega’s recovery and transition from hardware manufacturer to second party software developer.
As for replacing the Sega head, there are no members of the company’s Japanese board that really stand out as definite candidates.
