Bonkers! A penguin. Pulling big air. On a surfboard. Never going to happen.
Well, that is what we previously thought before we caught a little hands on time with Ubisoft’s movie tie-in
Surf’s Up.
Being fans of surfing and penguins and loving the sound of "arcade surf-racing” had us pumped about playing this fun-sounding game. However, disappointment soon set in when we realized that it was perhaps the only below-average game on display at this week’s Ubidays event in a bunker underneath the Louvre Museum in central Paris. Not to mention the worst looking PS3 game to date. Meh.
A shame that they had this penguin-poop on show really, as all the other games on display this week were certainly up to the mark in preview - particularly Free Radical’s mighty, stunningly-scripted FPS
Haze, the crusades based intrigue of
Assassin’s Creed, the Wii-based fun of
Rayman Raving Rabbids II and perhaps the most beautifully detailed World War II game we’ve ever seen,
Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway. If you
really like penguins or surfing and/or have kids who love the movie then this game might work for you. For us (and we like surfing around 90% and penguins around 60%) it just didn’t cut it. Here’s the video, see what you think.
