Liverpool Beat Milan In Champions League Final 2007

Console predicts Xabi Alonso to get the winner

Posted by Staff
Okay, it's that time of the year again when people who've previously had no interest in 4-3-3 or catennaccio, and who think that Kaka is what babies do-do in their nappies suddenly become fascinated by who is going to score more 'soccers' against who in the UEFA Champions League final - held this year in Athens.

Anxiety, as well as ticket and air fares, are high as stalwarts and bandwagon-jumpers alike of Liverpool and Associazione Calcio Milan shout a great deal and tell misty-eyed tales of greatness before falling down drunk.

Well, of course, video games can put a stop to all this nonsense, and apparently have done so. Don't bother watching tomorrow as ESPN has already simulated the game using EA's UEFA Champions League 2006/07.

If you don't want to read the score, turn away now.

Liverpool 2 - 1 A.C. Milan.

The details are:

"Liverpool took the lead just before half-time, after Gerrard was left unmarked near the left corner of the penalty box, to fire a cracker past Milan 'keeper Dida into the top corner of the goal.

"The Reds' then scored in the 56th minute through Xabi Alonso, who controlled the ball nicely in the six yard box, before calmly netting what would be the winning goal.

"Down 2-0, Milan mounted a frantic comeback, finally getting one past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina after Kaka was pulled down in the area and Milan were awarded a penalty kick. Midfielder Andrea Pirlo buried the spot-kick in the top corner to cut the margin to one, setting the stage for a frantic final 10 minutes.

"Milan fired eight shots at the Liverpool goal, forcing Reina to make four saves, but it was not enough for the Rossoneri, and after Pirlo wasted their last chance from a free-kick, they had to contend with another defeat to Rafa Benitez's side."

Have you ever simulated a real life event using your platform and game of choice? What happened?Tell us in the Forum. And we promise not to go into detail regarding one SPOnG staff member and a copy of Nintendogs.

Lol. Sounds good, and I think the red machine will win it. Nothing to loose, a stronger side and after last time, Milan are quaking if you ask me.

3-1 is more likely. Make it a clean, good paced game please. I know those Italians love to dive and foul.

If Liverpool win, it should be good for me too, I'll be £70 up.

Come on, you reds!

It's really not as important as Bristol Rovers vs Shrewsbury Town in the play-off final at Wembley this weekend though, is it?

Come on you Gas!

Hey, each to their own, friend. Never knew such teams existed, but good luck to you too. Lol.

You should call up ESPN and get them to run that game through UEFA CL too.

You know, Fifa World Cup 98 was an excellent simulator for Barthez.

All you had to do was hit L1 at the right moment and Barthez could do his signature move, miss the ball in a kick out and stand shocked looking as he concedes another goal. Happy days.

Yawwwn... it's all glamour-wagon jumping nonsense though really. It's going to be a long, dull, defensive, drawn-out drear finished off with penalties, which Liverpool will win. Then everybody will go bonkers about what a great final it was.

The only points to pierce the miasma of ennui that will engulf the whole thing will be that Gattuso will cripple Gerrard, so Carragher will cripple Kaka...

I'm off for to get the beers and curry in... last time I watched Liverpool in a Champions League Final it was about 5am coming into winter in Sydney, and I missed the second half.
