Halo 3 Release Date: September 25

Or 26th, should you be a European person

Microsoft has officially announced that Halo 3 will be released on September 25 in the U.S. and September 26 across Europe.

Oh no! We are going to have to wait a whole day after our American cousins before we get to play Halo 3. Will we cope?

Microsoft’s strategy is clearly to get the game out before the fourth financial quarter/pre-Xmas deluge of quality titles starts hitting store shelves in October and November.

"Halo 3 is much more than a video game release; it's the biggest entertainment event of the year," said Microsoft's typically hyperbolic Peter Moore, corporate vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business.

"On September 25, we intend to deliver a finale that will go down in entertainment history and leave people around the world with an experience that will be shared and enjoyed for years to come."

You can read SPOnG’s first impressions of Halo 3 right here.

For those lucky enough to be involved the Halo 3 beta test kicks off at 1pm GMT today.

Clearly Peter Moore never heard of a franchise called Pokemon...

Also, in my modest PC-FPS adraneline opinion.. after watching a Halo 3 deatchmatch-movie...god that game looks so boring. The aiming is horrid, the action is same-sided (spray bullets!) and everyone walks terribly slow.

September is a good launch month too, you get great sales in september and october and then get continuing good sales in the holiday greedfest. It worked for Nintendogs and New Super Mario Bros.

Halo was never a "generic" shooter. When it was released it was quite inovative. The vehicles where a huge component. Sure you could drive a tank for one level in golden eye but it was hardly made into an integral part of the game. The 2 weapons at once system that is now used in EVERY console FPS and even some pc games (it just makes more sense). Then of course the vehicle jacking in H2, which i know is lifted form GTA but was a first for an FPS.

At any rate, I completely understand people not getting all hot an bothered over the game, the story modes in both of the others where good but not great and where 1 suffered from repetitive corridors, 2 was too open and you can literally just drive right by most encounters, but the game is def not generic. It's still the most playable console FPS out there and anythign else that comes close does so by ripping off they're scheme.

Also its a f**king blast to play with friends, I stay away from matchmaking like a syphilitic hooker. i.e. only when I'm really desperate :P

I got bored of Halo after 15 minutes, why are people looking forward to a 3rd Halo? I couldn't think of a more generic shooter either.

Um, serious sam? everything set in a world war? Anything midway has ever made? Black?

pretty much anything short of half-life and battlefield in the past 5 years have been way less creative than halo. Credit to resistance for having an interesting concept, ww2 era alien invasion, but the game it self feels so amazingly same-ish i couldn't be bothered to play for more than half an hour. Though i hear it gets a bit cooler/scarier later on.

Truth be told the onl realy innovative thing hl2 did was add in the gravity gun, otherwise it plays a lot like everything before it, just with better presentation.

Condemned is probably the freshest first person anything I've played in a loooong time.
