Activision's
Spider-Man 3 has dislodged
God of War II from the top of the charts in its first week of sale. SPOnG knew Spidey was kind of tough, but having consulted our in-house comic book guy we can say with reasonable confidence that he's never taken down a god before (although he's hung out with a few).
Spidey racks up his highest sales on the 360, with the next-gen platform notching up 45% of the wall crawler's sales. It's followed by the PS2, which takes a 40% share, with Wii at 10%, the DS at 4% and the PC at 1%. It might have been a different story, of course, had the PS3 release not slipped.
Staggeringly it's Nintendo's
Wii Play at Number 2, jumping from Number 4 after five months on sale. The fact that Wiis are actually
available in the UK has, SPOnG reckons, helped.
GOWII's hero, Kratos, is left swinging his flaming knives at Number 3. The swift knock from the top for Sony's
God of War II does not mean, however, that the PS2 doesn't fare well in this week's charts. It has more exclusives in the Top 10 than any other platform.
SingStar Pop Hits sees your girlfriend having away with the PS2 at Number 4, while
Buzz! The Mega Quiz bamboozles its way from Number 16 to Number 6.
EA's
FIFA 07 scores a Top 10 spot thanks to bundling of the PC version. That, or jubilant Manchester United (or, more likely, soon to be jubilant Liverpool fans) have all gone out and bought it in celebration of winning the Premiership (or more likely UEFA Champions League). It leaps from Number 30 to Number 7.
Nintendo's
Pokemon Ranger manages to cling on to the position of highest DS exclusive this week, despite dropping five places. It hangs in there at Number 10, one spot ahead of Square Enix's
Final Fantasy III which just misses the Top 10 in its first week of sale. Keep an eye on SPOnG for a review of
FFIII coming soon.
This week doesn't look great for Codemasters, however.
Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar drops, like Gandalf fighting a Balrog, from Number 2 way down to Number 17. SPOnG suspects that while Tolkein's epic can walk the walk all over Middle-Earth
and recount it over several volumes, it can't talk the talk.
Next week look out for
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars getting a boost thanks to its 360 release and Konami's
PES 6 getting a boost thanks to a budget release across several platforms.
