LittleBigPlanet Demo Coming In Autumn?

Sony makes a non-announcement

We may all get our hands on LittleBigPlanet sooner than we thought, according to rumours doing the rounds. German website GameFront reports that a demo of the jewel in Sony's network crown will be released in Autumn this year, well ahead of the planned 2008 full release.

SPOnG contacted Sony for confirmation and was met with an elusive “We've got no announcements about LittleBigPlanet at this time.” That said, when the game was announced at Phil Harrison's GDC Keynote, Harrison stated that the game, “Will be out later this year on the network and early next year on Blu-ray disk.” “On the network” could very well refer to a demo that Sony's carefully not announcing.

Sony's giving PSN a bit of a nudge at the moment. It showed off LittleBigPlanet along with other networked games such as the recently delayed Calling All Cars from God of War creator David Jaffe at its Three Rooms in Shoreditch yesterday.

You can find out more about LittleBigPlanet on SPOnG's dedicated game page.

If you followed the interviews with Phil Harrison at GDC, it was pretty clear that the game itself is going to be released on the PSN this autumn. From what I gathered, it won't be merely a demo, but a full commercial release. The difference between it and the Blu-ray release next year is that the Blu-ray version will incorporate some of the user-created levels made in the time between the PSN release and the Fall release.

In other words, I think LittleBigPlanet is actually being released in full in the Fall on the PSN. You can't really say the Blu-ray release will be any 'fuller' since it will only be incorporating content or updates that will already have been available to the community online. I think the Blu-ray release will really just be for people who are not online or who would prefer to have content on a disc rather than having to download levels.
