Xbox Live: Triple Threat Tomorrow

Two of them involve bugs

Microsoft's ramping up the action with Xbox Live Arcade this week with three new titles on offer; Catan, Centipede and Millipede.

Big Huge Games' Catan hails from the boardgame Settlers of Catan, and puts you in charge of colonists (of the settling kind, they're not interested in you bowels. We think) on a newly discovered island. You'll need to vie for control of territory and resources.

The boardgame's creator, Klaus Teuber, seemed suitably impressed, stating, "I had no doubts that Brian Reynolds would do a great job, and the first version of the game exceeded my highest expectations. The AI is so clever that I even lost several games in a row!”

You'd better watch out, too, cos that AI takes the form of historical conquering types such as Alexander, Cleopatra and Tokugawa.

For those of you who like your Live Arcade games a bit more traditional, there are Atari's Centipede and Millipede.

Centipede challenges you to defend your village (we didn't know centipedes live in villages, either) from hordes of assorted bugs. It comes in the form of a classic arcade version and an 'Evolved' version that features updated, HD graphics.

In Millipede you'll need to destroy chains of arthropods using, we kid you not, mushrooms. It all sounds like good, wholesome, not-drug-induced fun to SPOnG. As with Centipede, both arcade classic and 'Evolved' versions are included.

All three games are available from 9am tomorrow morning and come with the usual 12 Achievements and 200 Gamerscore points. Catan will cost you 800 Microsoft Points, while Centipede and Millipede are 400 each.
