Silent Hill: An Undead Video Feast

Konami unleashes small town odd-bods. And a trucker

Posted by Staff
Konami has just released not one but two videos of the upcoming Silent Hill Origins. SPOnG has them here for you to watch in a darkened room.

The first handheld outing for the Silent Hill series is taking things back to basics. According to Konami:

“Silent Hill Origins follows a solitary truck driver, Travis Grady, who gets stuck in the terrifying town while making a routine delivery. He quickly discovers the locals aren't quite normal, and neither is the town. To complicate matters, Grady is confronted by crippling memories from his troubled past. He must escape from Silent Hill while resolving the memories that have plagued him since childhood.”

SPOnG's not too sure about helping a chap made entirely out of pixels resolve his issues with his father, but based on Konami's past successes with the series we're giving it the benefit of the doubt.

The first video serves as an introduction to the game, while the second shows off a dash of the gameplay. When you've done cowering in the corner and whimpering at the videos, and as soon as a warm trickle's found its way into your shoe, keep going downwards to see some new screens.

Well it'll certainly be interesting to have no loading between rooms. Assuming this is still true (heard this a while ago) I wonder if monsters can break down the doors or at the very least, wait for you to come out. It may seem like a small concern, but if the AI is programed poorly and can magically see through walls what's to stop them from getting a cheap shot by waiting for you indefinately to come out of a room? I don't think this will happen, but it's certainly possible. But it also brings up the issue of respawning enemies; previously they only respawned when you exited and re-entered the area, so what now? Once you are a certain distance from the spawn area, perhaps?

Ah well, small potential gripes. I'm still looking forward to handheld horror!
