It's Friday, and that can mean one thing only (discounting all the other things it means): it's Virtual Console day! The pickings are slim this week, but: quality over quantity and all that. Fox McCloud makes his Wii debut with
Lylat Wars while
Donkey Kong Jr. drops by to help us with our maths skills.
Hailing from the N64, 1997's
Lylat Wars is an update on the
Star Fox series' classic first appearance on the SNES. You take on the role of Fox McCloud, a hard-as-nails ace fighter pilot set on putting the universe to rights armed with only his Arwing Fighter, Landmaster Tank, Blue Marine sub and a whole lot of guts. OK, he's armed to the teeth, but you'll still be up against it as you battle through fifteen levels and a four-way multiplayer mode.
Lylat Wars will set you back 1,000 Wii Points.
Taking things a decade or so further back in time,
Donkey Kong Jr. Math is one of the granddaddies of brain games. Originally released on the NES in 1987, it puts two players head to head in a hard fought battle of mathematical skills. That's right, folks, it's a maths off! SPOnG expects Eminem to make a gritty and almost unbearably street movie about it soon. The game will set you back 500 Wii Points.
This week's releases puts the VC total up to 78 titles available for your consumption.
