Red Octane may have thrown owners of
Guitar Hero II out of the frying pan and into the fire with its recent 360 patch.
Numerous gamers are reporting in forums that the patch is causing their copy of
Guitar Hero II to freeze up or, worse still, giving them the red ring of death on their console's power button. Several gamers have reported having to return their consoles to Microsoft for repair or replacement.
SPOnG contacted the game's publisher, Activision, to find out what's being done to resolve the issue. No comment was available at the time of press.
The patch was issued on Saturday to resolve the failure of the game to respond to
input from the controller's whammy bar in certain instances.Guitar Hero II seems to be providing Red Octane, Activision and Microsoft with a constant headache lately. First came former franchise developer Harmonix's
announcement of Rock Band, prompting cries of doom for the series. Next up were the afore-mentioned whammy bar troubles, rendering the guitar controller's functionality stunted. Then came the
outrage prompted by the pricing of
downloadable song packs. Now, finally, the game is turning 360s into extremely expensive doorstops.
