Elder Scrolls Shivering Isles Patched

Xbox 360 owners still suffering

Bethesda has released an official PC patch for the critical bug that has been affecting the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion expansion pack, Shivering Isles.

It's not all good news, however, as owners of the 360 version still have no solution available to them.

Unfortunately, the patch, which is for all language versions, is not compatible with copies of the game purchased as a download via American e-tailer direct2drive. There are, however, makeshift solutions available here.

When SPOnG contacted Bethesda's representatives in the UK, they weren't even aware of the problem. If we were feeling a bit eastern, we might say it's a karmic reaction to Bethesda bypassing retail and delivering the game via Xbox Live. SPOnG, however, understands that karma doesn't work that way.

The bug in question occurs between 50 and 120 hours into the (PC) game depending on framerate, and causes newly created objects to disappear from gameplay. The bug derives from scripts that dictate the movement of certain guards. Reports suggest that the bug won't hit until around the 150-hour mark in the 360 version of the game.
