Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta Test – Launches 16 May

Now there’s a date for the diary

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios have finally confirmed that the mighty Halo 3 will debut to audiences worldwide via Xbox Live on May 16 at 1pm GMT.

So, you might want to plan ahead and take that day off, seeing as it’s a Wednesday and all. The Halo 3 beta test will run until Thursday 7th June.

Presuming you have already secured admission to the multiplayer, you “will be able to don... Spartan armour, download the beta on Xbox LIVE, and jump online." Bear in mind that you will need to have an Xbox LIVE Gold account if you want, "to battle other gamers from around the world."

"Halo 3 lets gamers experience Master Chief’s greatest battle as he launches an epic mission to stop the Covenant, destroy the impending Flood threat and ultimately save mankind", Microsoft informs us.

It also promises "new levels, weapons, vehicles and game types, as well as a chance to provide valuable data that Bungie will use in continued development".

The three brand new maps are called Snowbound, High Ground and Valhalla, "which represent a mixture of large- and medium-scale combat environments and are brand-new to Halo 3."

Each map will give testers a chance to get behind the controls of new Halo 3vehicles “such as the agile Mongoose all-terrain vehicle, and armed with deadly weapons such as the new and improved Assault Rifle, the ferocious Brute Spiker, the devastating Spartan Laser and the treacherous new Spike Grenades.”

Quick, run out and look for a copy of Crackdown with the Halo 3 beta access promotion – apparently there are still some on sale!
