It’s Friday, which can only mean one thing. Yes, it’s Nintendo Virtual Console update day.
Today in its weekly Virtual Console update, Nintendo is spoiling us, with four classic games available. From the NES come
Kirby's Adventure and
Excitebike (to tie in with the release of the
Wii’s Excite Truck today), both at 500 points (£3.75).
While from the SNES comes
R-Type III: 3rd Liahnina weighing in at 800pts (£6).
Finally we get
New Adventure Island from the TurboGrafx/PC Engine for 600 pts (£4.50).
SPOnG is perhaps most pumped about the return of
Excitebike the classic motocross racing video game which first appeared on the Famicom in Japan in 1984. “It's a new record!"
Classic platformer,
Kirby's Adventure, for a mere 500 Wii Points, is also worth a look in. A NES game developed by HAL Laboratory and released by Nintendo back in 1993. Kirby wanders around dream land inhaling enemies in an attempt to retrieve everybody’s dreams. It was the only NES game to feature Kirby, and is the second game in the Kirby series, following his debut on the Game Boy in
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream LandLast up, but certainly not least for sch’mup fans, we get
R-Type III: 3rd Liahnina at 800pts (£6, pictured below) – a return to the classic SNES original (the less said about the awful GBA port the better) and side-scrolling platformer
New Adventure Island for 600pts (£4.50)
To remind you, Wii Points in the UK set you back around 75p per 100 if bought in-store and around 69p per 100 if bought online.
