Three Castlevania Games PSP-Bound

Symphony of the Night, Rondo of Blood plus 3D remake

Thank god for the PSP. It really is a wonderful piece of kit. However, someone at Sony missed a really important meeting regarding making more killer must-get PSP games for the format.

Other than the PSP staple, Lumines II and the soon-to-be released Every Extend Extra from BVG/Q Entertainment and the forthcoming and rather tasty PSP port of The Warriors from Rockstar, there really isn’t much that we are getting overexcited about for the PSP right now.

So it’s good to hear that Konami has finally spilled a few more beans on the planned Castlevania title for PSP – Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, set for release later in 2007, is set to feature a 3D remake of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (but with 2D style gameplay a la Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins).

The game was originally only released in Japan on the Turbo Duo, so it will be the first opportunity for most of us Gaijin to play it.

The PSP game will also include the original verision of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and – yes, more – Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

That game, you may remember, is also soon to arrive on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade download service (pictured here).

Konami wins today’s prize for best reason to argue that the PSP is not dead after all.
