Ghost Recon 2 Misses PS3 Launch

Still set to come out in ‘Spring’ though

Posted by Staff
SPOnG has just received the latest developer diary videos on Ubisoft’s massively anticipated Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. You can grab them at the bottom of this page.

We have also just received word – via Ubisoft’s latest schedule – that the release date for the PS3 version of the game has been changed from the 23rd March (i.e. the PS3 hardware launch date in Europe) and has been re-listed, annoyingly vaguely, as ‘Spring’.

Now, according to the Department of Trade and Insustry’s ‘British Summertime Rules’ in 2007, British Summertime starts on the Sunday of 25 March and ends on the 28 October.

So, by those rules, it would mean Ubisoft would have two non-work days following the PS3 launch on Friday 23rd March, in order to get Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 out in the ‘official’ British Spring.

Clearly, Ubisoft’s definition of when Spring ends is different to the Department of Trade and Industry’s definition! Perhaps the official French Spring doesn't end until August or something weird. Who knows!?

In all seriousness, the slippage of the PS3 version does seem mildly strange though, considering that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is still due for release on Xbox 360 on 9th March, and on PC and PSP on 30th March. SPOnG has put a call into Ubisoft this morning for clarification on the matter.

Ubi’s other PS3 launch titles are all still set for the 23rd – so if you are picking up a PS3 on that date then you might also want to grab a copy of Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Oblivion, Blazing Angels or Rainbow Six Vegas.

Unless, of course, you have played them all to death on the 360 last year. Check out the latest from the GRAW 2 devs in the videos right here:

Its not strange if you consider the fact that the PS3 will have a limited supply at launch and there are already 30 odd games competing for gamers money.

This will allow them time to polish the game a little more on the PS3, especially if they have been having problems and they can also launch when there is less competition.

I'm supprised more people haven't spread out there games over the first 6months of the consoles launch.

Oh, FFS. You're talking about BST, the daylight saving time where our clocks go forward by an hour. It has nothing to do with the start (or the duration, which, by definition must be around three months, so that we can get four seasons into a 12 month year) of summer.

This subject has already been discussed as some length right here in the SPOnG forums.
