Hiroki Kikuta, the man formerly in charge of Square’s Mana series has been talking up the GameCube.
In an interview with French site Consoles-France, Kikuta, CEO of Sacnoth (Koudelka) has made some interesting comments about the PlayStation 2 and the GameCube.
“About Playstation2 and Game Cube…Hum. In the first, Playstation2 has a bad architecture,” said Kikuta. “The poor capacity of VRAM makes development extremely hard. It is really bad. Amount of textures is important than amount of polygons. Many programmers who I know dislike that nature of Playstation2.” These are brave comments from anyone in the industry, especially from the owner of a small development studio.
Kikuta moves his attention across to GameCube. “When I think about GameCube, Nintendo announced that it would contribute many development tools at a low price. Many third party companies can enter the GameCube market with ease. I have also heard that the architecture of Game Cube is designed with small-scale production in mind. It is a powerful advantage. If I could have a chance to do that, I truly want to create an innovative game for Game Cube”
Kikuta’s company was funded by SNK until the buyout by Aruze last year. Sacnoth is still looking for a new backer.
