Earlier today, the rumour mill started to grind when CVG reported a possible release date for Guitar Hero 2 on the 360 as March 23. SPOnG decided to check the facts and found that the date touted is, at best, unfounded.
When speaking with publisher Activision's PR company, SPOnG was told: "No official release date and price have been revelead for the UK version of GH2 on Xbox 360 yet - certainly not by us or Activision." Still, with the release slated for sometime in March Play.com do have a one in four chance of being right.
We got in touch with Play.com to find out where their date came from and are awaiting a response. The only reason SPOnG can imagine for the online retailer proffering this date is that Play.com needs a release date in its system to take orders.
The rumour mill's been stepping things up a notch for Guitar Hero of late. Speculation has been flying about possible tie-ins following the filing of an application at the US Patent and Trademark Office for trademarks on 'Guitar Villain' and 'Drum Villain'.
Earlier in the week came the (still unconfirmed by Activision) news that developer Neversoft has come on board for the franchise.
It looks like, for now at least, 360 rockers will have to make do with air guitars.
