As the embers die down in London today following the
impressively massive launch event for
World of Warcraft expansion
Burning Crusade, we find great joy in picking over comments made by one Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard Entertainment.
Addressing the masses, Bassat stated, "I'm a
StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade - and we launched
StarCraft in 1998 - before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series," hinting that we may well be seeing a true
StarCraft sequel in the next 23 and a half months.
StarCraft stands as the game that both launched Blizzard as a global development force and triggered the mainstream obsession with the unique style of role-playing and strategy, with epic sales and uptake of
World of Warcraft concreting the studio's hold on the genre as it has evolved.
Of course, we'll not get too excited until we see an official announcement from Blizzard, though the fact that the studio is talking publicly about the project will surely be enough to trigger a wave of excitement through PC gaming circles.
As ever, we'll keep an ear to the ground and update you as soon as we hear more.
