Ratchet and Clank’s PSP Debut – Latest Screens

Plus details on new weapons, gadgets and features

Fans of Sony’s cartoony Ratchet and Clank series will be glad to know that the first PSP outing in the series, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is due sometime in the first quarter of 2007. Here, for your viewing pleasure, is the latest bunch of screenshots issued today.

All initial reports on the game sound very promising indeed. If Sony can manage to shoehorn half the fun and all the features of the original games into a handheld version then it’s hard to see how it could fail.

The game is an original Ratchet and Clank adventure developed by High Impact Games – a studio made up of former Insomniac (Spyro) employees, all no doubt well versed in the background of the series.

The game’s storyline is set after the events of Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked. While on a much needed vacation, Ratchet and Clank’s R&R time is suddenly cut short as they soon find themselves lured into a mysterious quest. Our adventurous duo must then follow the trail of a kidnapped girl called Luna, while on the way rediscovering a forgotten race of genius inventors known as the Technomites. They soon uncover a plot more dangerous than they could have imagined!

One of the original’s best-loved features – the massive and hilarious cartoony weapons – is still central this PSP version, with weapons such as the Bee Mine Glove, (which lets you fire out a swarm of robotic bees), an Acid Bomb and a Laser Tracer, which you can burn anything into the enemies or your surroundings, all sounding hugely fun and inventive.

With full multiplayer support and loads more cool new features and gadgets (including Ratchet’s new ‘make-plants-grow-faster’ Sprout-a-Matic) we’ll be keeping an eye on this and should have a definite release date in the near future.
