Real Time Worlds has announced the final street date for its sci-fi crimebuster,
Crackdown. The Xbox 360 title will hit European shelves on February 23rd. You’ll get the opportunity to play it before then, however, with a demo released through Xbox Live Marketplace on 18th January.
Crackdown's a beat ‘em up/shoot ‘em up hybrid in which you’ll get to romp around a city whupping some criminal ass with your super-powers. Expect high-tech weapons, transforming vehicles and gravity defying roof jumping, Spider-Man style.
From Real Time Worlds itself:
Pacific City is overridden; crime controls the streets. Three powerful gangs have taken the once-great metropolis hostage and the police have proven powerless in their efforts to regain control. Only the Agency – with genetically enhanced agents of justice – can provide citizens with some sense of hope.
‘The Agency’ sounds a bit sinister to us, but we’ll forgo our anarchist leanings for now. It sounds suspiciously like you’ll be playing the bad guys in
The Matrix… Fortunately, their body armour looks too 1980s’ for that to be a worry.
Real Time Worlds is also offering a “revolutionary” co-op mode throughout the entire campaign: Free-running and super-powered head-smashing with your mates? OK, ‘revolutionary’ might be a bit strong; sounds more like a standard Friday night out in Wakefield, but SPOnG will reserve judgement for now.
