SPOnG-News has just updated our Wii to discover that the Wii Weather Channel is now up and running. Go check it out, it’s rather nifty!

Wii owners with WiiConnect24 enabled will already have received a message from Nintendo informing them that the channel is live.

We can also confirm that it is officially chilly but certainly not Christmas-cold Up North.

Once signed up, you merely choose your nearest home town or city (from a list that is annoyingly in no kind of alphabetical order) and you will then get the local temperature, UV index and wind speed and a handy five-day forecast screen featuring cloudy/sunny/rainy icons.

The coolest interactive feature is being able to use spinnable globe with the Wii Remote, to check out world forecasts instantly. It’s like Google Earth for dummies.

Clearly the service is FAR more limited than the fabulous Google Earth, but there are sure to be regular updates, plus playing around with it gives a good indicator of how Nintendo plans to provide incredibly user-friendly weather (and, soon to follow) news services to Wii-users in addition to gaming functionality.
