Wario Ware: Smooth Moves and ExciteTruck Dated for Europe

Second must-buy Wii title to dance away those winter blues

Posted by Staff
One of the great shames of the Wii launch is that we never got to play Wario Ware: Smooth Moves in time for Christmas with the folks. This, more so than any other ‘party game’ (and to call it a mere party game does it a huge disservice) would have been the game to convince the lapsed, the ladies and the elderly to get involved in the wonder of Wii.

However, it is good news to know that Wario Ware: Smooth Moves launches on Wii across Europe on 12th January 2007. Aside from massive quantities of illicit Pakistani Valium and left-over Xmas booze, there really is nothing better than a new Wario Ware to help you beat those winter blues.

Not that Nintendo needs much help to persuade eager UK gamers and present-buyers right now of the value of Wii, as it continues to fly off retailers’ shelves faster than Nintendo can restock them.

Following closely on Wario’s heels is Excite Truck on Wii which is set to launch across Europe on 16th February 2007. For SPOnG, it’s all about Wario. Read on for the latest details on the grin-inducing second must-have game for Wii (following Zelda of course).

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves makes full use of the Wii Remote and features over 200 fast-paced and action-packed micro-games in which players must master positioning and movement of the controller to complete the challenges set.

Each game only lasts a few seconds and requires you to perform bizarre actions with the Wii Remote, such as sautéing vegetables, hula hooping (by holding the Wii Remote against your hip) or slotting Grandma’s teeth into her mouth! Nintendo also promises some recognisable faces will make appearances from classic games such as Super Mario Bros, Nintendogs and Metroid Prime.

The single-player mode is fairly standard stuff, but the new multi-player modes sound like the ideal way to experience Wario Ware, as Nintendo's press release details it:

In Survival mode up to 12 people can take up the Smooth Moves challenge where one wrong move eliminates them from the game - it’s truly the survival of the fittest! Go head to head in Star Nose where one player uses the Wii Remote and the other the Nunchuk to fly a nose-shaped spaceship along a corridor, making sure not to touch a single wall or obstacle. Five other exciting multiplayer games are available to play, including Darts, Lifeline, Balloon, Bomb and Bungee Buddies. No matter what your mood there will be a multiplayer game to entertain you and with 12 save slots available Wario Ware: Smooth Moves is the perfect title to play with your friends and family.

Forget about Christmas, it’s all about 12th January when Wario Ware: Smooth Moves releases at an estimated retail price of £34 in the UK. Watch out for the full SPOnG review shortly.
