At a question and answer session in Tokyo yesterday, Nintendo revealed some new details on Zelda for the GameCube. Heading the conference was the irrepressible Shigeru Miyamoto.
The first morsel of information came from Miyamoto and it was a shock to all. "Takano is actually the director for the next Zelda game. I am not in a position to tell any details regarding the GameCube project until May 2001." Considering that Miyamoto is the creator of the Zelda series, this news has surprised everyone.
Takano made reference to the fact the Zelda production team is hard at work on the control method for the new title. "The new controller will allow for many different actions. We are experimenting with what kind of actions the controller will be able to accommodate. What we have to do next is work on the details of the story line, but we first want to see what can be done with the GameCube controller. At this point, Link is running around the screen and looks very cute and adorable."
Although Miyamoto’s role has changed somewhat, he will still oversee the production of all Nintendo’s in-house GameCube and Game Boy Advance titles. "At Nintendo SpaceWorld, we presented some video demonstrations of Link facing off with Ganon. Those graphics are already completed. There are still quality checks to do for the graphics...Now we are working on the different camera angles for the fighting scenes."
