New S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trailer Right Here, Right Now
Release (re)confirmed for next March
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , THQ’s immense PC first-person-shooter-cum-role-playing-game (think, Oblivion meets Half Life 2!) has been on and off SPOnG’s radar for some time now.
THQ first signed the game - which was originally due to be released in 2005 - with Russian devs GSC way back in 2003. Of course, as no game worth buying ever arrives on time, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. slipped…
…and then slipped a bit more. SPOnG is now being informed that it should be with us by next March.
The reasons for the slippery release set-backs may have something to do with the size and the ambition of the game. SPOnG had a brief hands on with it last week, and can confirm that it is MASSIVE. What we saw impressed us immensely, and we’ll bring you our first hands on with the game later today.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , if you were not aware, is based on (and indeed, subtitled) "The Legacy of Chernobyl". You play a bounty hunter searching the radioactive wastelands which were left in the wake of one of the greatest nuclear disasters of our age. OK, just how much actual bounty is available in that particular area (Pripyat, Ukraine – in the former Soviet Union) has got to be open to question. But don’t let that stand in the way of a good game.
In fact, it’s more than a game – apparently – it’s a political-type statement. At least that’s according to the developers:
Phew, it’s good to know that 20 years after the disaster, game-makers are now comfortable to issue reminders to those governments and corporations that still have not tightened up their procedures.
What next, a game based on the Bohpal gas disaster? We bloody well hope so.
