The Charts: FIFA 07 Still at the Back of the Net

Good, football, that means we don't have to think about the cricket... oh, damn you, EA!

The pre-Christmas boom continues unabated this week, with the UK entertainment software market enjoying the highest sales week of the year. And while it might not quite beat the same week last year (the week when the Xbox 360 launched with 15 launch titles, remember?) it will be interesting to see what happens over the next week, what with Nintendo’s much-vaunted Wii, in stores as of this Friday.

Another solid week for Electronic Arts with FIFA 07 remaining at the top of the All Formats charts this week, with Need for Speed: Carbon cruising close behind at Number 2.

Need for Speed: Carbon is this year’s 8-to-13 odds-on favourite for clinching the Christmas number one slot. Unsurprisingly.

Activision’s Call of Duty 3 does a quick march up the chart this week from Number 7 last week up to number 3. Seems all that expensive telly advertising does pay off then!

You can read SPOnG’s review of the Wii version of CoD3 to see what we thought about that version, which will be in stores at the console’s launch this coming Friday.

Did we mention that there was a new console out on Friday?

Our national passion for football cannot be quelled, with Konami's splendid Pro Evolution Soccer 6 dribbling up the chart this week one place to Number 4.

EA's third Top Five title is The Sims 2: Pets, at Number 5, Microsoft’s Gears of War falls three places to 6, LucasArts’ Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy climbs one place to 7, THQ's WWE Smackdown Vs RAW drops a two places to 8, THQ’s movie tie-in Cars revs back up one place to 9.

Ubisoft's latest Tom Clancy game, the exclusive-to-360 Rainbow Six: Vegas sneaks into the chart at Number 10 this week.

Elsewhere, three games released two weeks back have finally made it into the Charts. All Formats Top 40 for the first time: EA's Cricket 07 at Number 33, Midway’s Happy Feet at Number 18, and Eidos’ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Party Edition at Number 25.
