Atari has been busy doing a spot of research in support of Neverwinter Nights 2. It’s discovered that a vast majority of gaming Brits would never purchase a fully-loaded character established by someone else.
The survey showed that 92% of British gamers questioned would never purchase a character. A mere 6% admitted that they have done so in the past; and a paltry 2% stated they have sold a character themselves. Of course, it might be that 92% of Brits won't admit to considering, in their darkest of fantasies, purchasing a prostituted character. But who are we to say?
ePimping has emerged as a whole new facet of ecommerce in these strange and interesting times. Underpaying Third World students and children to sit in a high-tech sweatshop building up the stats of characters has become a very lucrative business. SPOnG reckons that when all's said and done it could be worse: they could be making trainers for Nike, after all.
PR Manager, Lee Kirton for Atari, added, "We know that when Neverwinter Nights 2 released at the beginning of the month, a plethora of oven-ready characters went on sale off the back of it. We certainly don't endorse it, but we're powerless to stop this unscrupulous trading."
It's nice to see that we Brits are having none of it though. It would, after all, be the MMORPG equivalent of queue jumping – or worse, being the chairman of Chelsea football club. No-one wants that.
However, as the report did not show any other nationalities, nor did it declare exactly how many people were actually asked, or how they were asked or what they were asked... well, we Britons might have to hold off on sewing our "Most Honest Gamers" Scouting badge on to our body armour.
