Not a major disappointment this one, but a disappointment no less – Nintendo’s just sent word to SPOnG that the Wii’s Forecast Channel (Weather) and Wii News Channel won't be available until December and January, respectively.

Now, aside from the fact that SPOnG wasn’t planning on using Wii for up-to-date weather or news updates, we still like to give any new hardware a good pounding to see exactly what it is capable of. So even when fairly quirky, inessential features such as these don’t make the hardware launch it’s a bit of a let-down.

Still, we are sure we will soon forget about it an hour or so into The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Nintendo now plans to roll out the Forecast Channel on December 20th (forecast: cold and wet; stay indoors, play Zelda) and the News Channel on January 27th next year (news: you are skint; stay in and; play Zelda).

From the press release, just in, “On Dec. 20, Nintendo will roll out the Forecast Channel. Users will be able to access free local weather information, which is continually updated. Users can access worldwide weather information by browsing a 3-D globe. Weather information will be supplied by Weathernews…. Then on Jan. 27, the Wii Menu News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press.”

At least this will give you more time to customise your Wii Mii too. eh?
