“Hmmm, any ideas what we could do for Christmas lads?” says somebody in Rockstar’s accounts department.

“What about re-releasing the most popular games on the PS2 again, but all in one big nice shiny package and make it cheap as chips?” replies the genius office junior.

And bingo! There we have it: Rockstar US has today announced plans to release Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy this December. The pack comprises Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - the original PS2 trilogy all bundled together at a bargain bucket price of $39.99 for the three.

For those who have still to play any or all of the three it’s a no-brainer stocking filler. Though we have wonder exactly how many gamers there are left out there who have yet to play these highlights from the GTA series. Clearly, Rockstar in the US think there’s plenty to warrant milking the GTA-teat just one last time.

SPOnG just spoke to a Rockstar rep in the UK and, curiously there are, ‘no immediate plans’ to release such a bundle in Europe’.

GTA IV for Xbox 360 and PS3 is set for an October 2007 launch, while a PS2 port of the recently released PSP cracker, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is scheduled for Spring 2007.
