Now here is a rather amusing bit of news that contains a valuable little lesson for any overworked, stressed-out webmasters working for major consumer electronic retail chains. According to Circuit City’s website earlier this week, it seems that the retailer is stocking Nintendo Fusion games consoles which will be available for sale later this month.
Yes that’s right. Nintendo FUSION. From the website:
“NINTENDO FUSION - available 11/19 - this revolutionary new console delivers an interactive gaming experience for the entire family. Besides gaming you'll get a variety of entertainment, information & communication channels that add value to the console & make it a device for everyone for more details visit…”
SPOnG can only surmise that one of two things has happened here to lead to this embarrassing mistake being made.
It is most likely that whoever wrote the copy for the website has done a quick bit of Google-research and discovered The Nintendo Fusion Tour – and from that concluded that Nintendo’s next generation games console is, as any fool with no idea about videogames would deduce, called The Nintendo Fusion.
It is perhaps less likely, though far funnier, to think that the copywriter in question has confused Nintendo’s Wii with the more recently announced In2Games’ Fusion technology – which
SPOnG pegged last month as a ‘potential Wii-Killer’.With this in mind, SPOnG called In2Games this morning for a comment on Circuit City’s unfortunate gaffe. The PR rep at the end of the phone was unable to comment due to giggling so hard. We will bring you its ‘official’ response as soon as we get it.
