Ban This Sick, Evil Game!

November 7th sees the release of a game filled with violence and coded messages and aimed squarely at attracting young people into a strange cult.

Violence, violence and more violence, and then sexual talk!
Violence, violence and more violence, and then sexual talk!
The apparently anarchist game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces centres on destroying an organisation called the ‘Global Community Peacekeepers’ (GCP). GCP is described by the makers of the game as a, “…one world government seeking peace for all of mankind.”

The apparently ancient cult focuses on a magical figure with super powers such as bread-multiplication, water walking and immortality.

The game - based on a hugely successful series of books that have also used coded messages in order to convince the youth to give their lives over to the cult- is due to be released to coincide with the USA’s mid-term elections.

Astonishingly, when we looked further into this story of magic, violence and political subversion, SPOnG found itself in agreement with former videogames nemesis, attorney Jack Thompson.

Speaking in relation to this sick evil game to the Sioux City Journal this year, Thompson lashed out at the Eternal Forces, “You've got a generation of boys in this country (The United States) who are spending sometimes dozens of hours a week blowing away people. Now they're going to have the opportunity to do it in a Christian setting and, you know, where does it stop?"

A good question Jack! This is exactly the kind of thing that could encourage all sorts of religious extremism. But it's not just violence, Jack!

The series of books - which has been purchased by some 60-million people - goes further even than this sick, evil game. SPOnG was astonished to read this piece of blurb relating to a tome entitled The Rapture – Countdown to Rapture:

Pan-Con Airlines captain Rayford Steele prepares for a flight to London with beautiful flight attendant Hattie Durham. Because of his wife's newfound faith, Rayford looks forward to time, and the possibilities, with Hattie.

SPOnG can only be appalled at the use of such sexual teasery to sell a work of literature to young people. We can only guess – having not yet received, seen, nor even played a review copy of this sick, evil game – at the amount or quality of sexual shenanigans within the it. So, that’s exactly what we are doing when we call for it to be banned!

And it does not stop there! The company behind this sick, evil game, Left Behind Games, trumpets its use of violence, political subversion of the democratic system, and even demonic characters (worse even than those featuring in Harry Potter). Here are just a few examples:

Violence!
• Conduct physical & spiritual warfare : using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.

Demonic Activity!
• Recover ancient scriptures and witness spectacular Angelic and Demonic activity as a direct consequence of your choices.

More Violence and Hell Raising!
• Control more than 30 units types - from Prayer Warrior and Hellraiser to Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks!

We leave this part of our Special Report, fairly, by enabling the manufacturer of Eternal Forces to speak for itself in relation to the level of sick violence in the soon-to-be-released blockbuster. This from its own FAQ:

Does anyone get killed in the game?
People do perish in our game just like some do in the book series. This is a real strategy game, so the gamer controls his forces just like you do in chess game.

So, yes! People do perish! And this point is sickeningly rammed home with an analogy to chess where, in SPOnG’s experience, pieces (featuring ‘pawn’) are ‘taken’ and ‘mated’!

Stay tuned as SPOnG risks life and soul to get to the bottom of this sick, evil game.

SPOnG’s report uses the same contextual devices, deep-analysis and objectivity as we have noted being used by the mainstream press in order to assess the worth of games such as Bully in the recent past.

But the UK government is in the thrall of a hardcore fundamentalist wing of the catholic church... Opus Dei

Religious peple should not be given access to power.

People who believe that aliens are beaming next year's superbowl score into their head are intitutionalised.

People who believe the son of an invisible all-powerful creature came to earth and walked on water, and rose from the dead are allowed to form policy.

Go figure.

no-one who wants power should be able to have power.

erm no.

I dont mean like having electricity nd all that. not that kind of power at all. if you want power for your super-vibro-lover then you should be allowed to have it. but if you want power over other people then you should stick your super-vibro-lover where the sun dont shine which you prolly do anyway.

s**t, what i mean is that if you want to be elected then you should be not allowed to.

s**t unless you are chino moreno of course

*blinks*

I realise the game exists and is real. Spong's commentary believing it's a "sick evil game" is not.

*resists urge to roll eyes* :)

doesnt resist urge to roll eyes - that would what they call satire mebbe? dunno but it struck me that spong might have been poking a little reality at the ppl who have been laying into other games recently or maybe even the righwhingers who proclaim peace but do a hole lot of war making.

I think Spong's little "funny" was more tiresome than anything. But whatever.

Is it just me, or is Spong starting to get more political than it has been?

No, not 'whatever' - why did you think it was tiresome?

Is it just me, or is Spong starting to get more political than it has been?

Frankly, a lot of interesting news has been emerging recently from areas previously considered, ''a little bit of politics''.

Whenever large slabs of cash are involved, and industries that were once perceived as marginal become seen as economically (and socially) 'relevant' you're going to get politics. We can either avoid that, thus leaving gaming in the clutches of the mainstream media and politicians (or company-lining) - and they've not done the finest job of objective coverage – or we can engage in battle.

After all, you're only going to get the kind of games that you are prepared to put up with.

That's not to say that SPOnG is not putting up plenty of good, solid gaming-related features; with more on the way in coming days. We're covering off on the major platforms, titles and release news, of course.

However, in my mind if we don't actively engage with the kinds of individuals who simply critique games based on titles and received wisdom, then we're not doing our job.

Ideally that entails the odd slab of satire. There’s nothing like satire to confuse the already negatively biased, amuse the fans, and put questions into the minds of the kind of people who have questioning minds. After all, the industry (wth its associated stone-throwers and acolytes) already does a good job of taking itself very seriously. Gods forbid that SPOnG should ever do the same.

That said, SPOnG is here for its readers - and we're more than hard, I mean, confident enough to take any well-placed criticism at face value. Note, for example, the death of the Ed notes.

Cheers

Tim
